Quality Control Intern

Background

• Responsible for assisting the Quality Control Team in accessing the quality and efficiency of projects and processes.
• Works under general supervision of the Lab Supervisor in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards
• Employees in positions at this level of the series are entry-level professional chemical interns who conduct experiments in the development of analysis of materials and techniques as defined by the assigned program. The work involves the application of standard tests and procedures, although employees, at times and with appropriate supervision, may adapt procedures to apply to new or unusual situations

Tasks

• Assist in performing a wide variety of standard tests and procedures associated with wet and instrumental chemical and microbiological analysis (including finished good lots, raw materials and in-process batches) against specifications using both quantitative and qualitative methods
• Responsibility to accurately complete chemical and/or microbiological testing of finished product
• With detailed instructions covering the specific methodology, conduct new or modified tests and experiments locating and reporting test deficiencies that exceed recommended or desired tolerances
• Maintain exact mathematical records of test results (including data entry to automated LIMS and manual ISM lab journal0; prepare statistical charts reflecting test ratios, distribution and progression curves, and other data
• Perform regular PH meter calibration; assist with preventative maintenance procedures on lab equipment as necessary
• Write research reports
• Demonstrate laboratory and or specific research techniques and procedures to other personnel
• Maintain and enhance site safety

• Observe and analyze current methods, processes and make recommendations to bring about improved process/product quality, work simplification and cost reduction.

Specifications

• Enrolled in an approved Chemical Technology program or related program
• Entry level (0-2 years) experience
• Knowledge in:
  • Theories, principles and methods of instrumental and wet chemistry (Basic level)
  • Mathematics and statistics (Basic level)
  • Basic analytical laboratory equipment
  • MS Office software package

• Skill in:
  • Must be able to comprehend specifications, sketches & blueprints
  • Must be able to generate new and creative approaches to solving problems centered on performance, reliability, repeatability, and cost effectiveness
  • Must be a self-starter with the drive and enthusiasm for quality and yield improvements
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Must be very detail oriented with a focus on organization
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and handle disruptions
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as an ability to work well with others, under pressure, customer relations and organizing the tasks for the most effective use of time.
