Process Controls Engineer

Position: Full time

Background

  • Works under general supervision of the Engineering Manager in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • Responsibility to recommend, specify, engineer and implement electrical control and automation upgrades to improve product quality, increase yield, and decrease downtime
  • This is an on-site position with 0% Travel requirements

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Work with production to create control narratives, process descriptions, and functional requirement based on expected functionality including description of control loops, interlocks and alarms
  • Work closely with engineers, electricians, operators and others during all phases of engineering projects from conception through commissioning
  • Create and modify PLC and HMI programs
  • Read, create and modify Process Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Design, implement, maintain and improve control system architecture, software, instrumentation, and networking equipment for chemical manufacturing plant
  • Prepare controls hardware specifications and purchase equipment from vendors
  • Assist with the electrical construction installation and configuration of control devices
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
  • Investigate operational complaints, determine nature and extent of problems and recommend remedial measures (be an effective troubleshooter)
  • Learn complementary engineering discipline methods to ensure effective process solutions
  • Keep abreast of new technology developments to achieve best practices and improve and optimize new and existing control systems
  • Operate AutoCAD design software to design and draw panel layouts, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams

Specifications

  • BS in Electrical or Chemical Engineering
  • 1-3 years working in Manufacturing or Control Systems-related field
  • Knowledge of:

Required:

  • Working knowledge of P&IDs
  • Experience with loop checking, startup, troubleshooting and commissioning in an industrial environment
  • 4-20 mA and 120VAC controls knowledge
  • Experience programing PLC or DCS control hardware and software
  • Commissioning of variable speed drives




Preferred:

  • Chemical Plant or Manufacturing experience
  • AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical (Basic or Intermediate level)
  • Plant 3D experience (basic level)
  • Knowledge of Electrical Drawings (panel layouts, motor schematics, wiring diagrams)
  • Proficiency in Rockwell hardware and software
    • RSLogix 5000 and Studio 5000
    • FT View Studio and Machine Edition
    • FT Historian and/or Vantage Point
    • PlantPAx

  • Skill in:
