Network Administrator

Background

  • Works under general supervision in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment
  • Employees are responsible for maintaining computing environment by identifying network requirements; installing upgrades; monitoring network performance.

Tasks

  • Establishes network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.
  • Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
  • Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.
  • Prepares users by designing and conducting training programs; providing references and support.
  • Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
  • Meets financial requirements by submitting information for budgets; monitoring expenses.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Specifications

  • S. degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent vocational training
  • Five (5) years of IT experience that involved the application of desktop hardware and software. Up to two (2) years of this experience may be substituted for and/or added together with the educational requirements listed above
  • Certification in Chemical terrorism Vulnerability Information is a plus
  • Knowledge of:
    • TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VPN & VLAN (Thorough level)
    • Cisco technologies (switches, firewall, security) (Thorough level)
    • Microsoft Windows Server (2012 and higher, Hyper-V, WSUS, WDS) (Thorough level)
    • Network Performance Tuning (Thorough level)
    • LAN (Extensive level)
    • Network Design and Implementation
    • Installation and troubleshooting all currently supported versions of Windows operating systems, MS Office
    • LANs, WAN and remote communications
  • Skill in:
    • Dealing with customer problems, including follow-up
    • Responding to rapidly changing demands
  • Ability to:
    • Identify and resolve technical problems
    • Collect, process and record data accurately
    • Understand detailed written and oral instruction and established procedures
    • Manage time effectively and meet deadlines
    • Work effectively with a customer-service focus
