Background

  • Works under general supervision of the Project Engineering Manager in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • Responsibility to provide team with expertise in the design and layout of electrical and controlssystems using developed subsystems, industry standard components and, when required, some elements of original design.
  • Responsibility to oversee design and management of the manufacturing controls network in conjunction with the corporate Information Technology group.

 

 

Tasks

  • Provide project management for projects including, managing scope, costs, quality and contractors through all phases of a project (conception, approval, design, construction, commissioning, validation, start-up and final documentation)
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications, compliance with operational and safety standards, and electrical code compliance
  • Develop engineering solutions to operational problems and provide expert electrical and controls engineering technical assistance to analyze and correct problems
  • Work closely with engineers, electricians, operators and others during all phases of engineering projects from conception through commissioning
  • Operate computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks (primarily Rockwell software and AutoCAD)
  • Provide reviews of controls programming and electrical design for all Electrical & Controls Engineers in the group and give advice as necessary
  • Work closely with the Project Engineering Manager to hold Electrical & Controls Engineers accountable for the quality and timeliness of their work
  • Design, implement, maintain and improve electrical equipment, instruments, facilities, components, and systems for chemical manufacturing plant
  • Prepare specifications and purchase materials, instruments, and equipment
  • Investigate and test vendor products
  • Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems to ensure installation and operations conform to standards, design and customer requirements
  • Investigate complaints, determine nature and extent of problem and recommend remedial measures (troubleshooting)
  • Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering projects
  • Keep abreast of new methods and developments for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis in programs, or new programs, or new programs warranted by such developments
  • Develop/ modify technical guidelines, standards, and specifications
  • Keep abreast of new methods and developments in the electrical and controls field in order to recommend changes to maintain/update programs to the level of best practices in industry

 

Specifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 3 years experience in Electrical Controls Engineering
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years experience (minimum)
  • Knowledge of:
    • Theories, principles, methods and procedures of electrical engineering (Advanced level)
    • Mathematics and statistics (Advanced level)
    • MS Office software package
    • AutoCAD Electrical
    • Rockwell Automation controls programming and information collection and presentation software
    • Variable Frequency Drive applications and industrial motor control solutions
    • Computer network management, architecture and security
    • Experience with SKM Power Tools software a plus
  • Skill in:
    • Working effectively and efficiently on multiple projects
    • Providing oversight and expertise to other Electrical Controls Engineers and acting in a Lead capacity
    • Effective, disciplined and demonstrated documentation
    • Working effectively in a team environment, including collaboration between development and process divisions
    • Responding to rapidly changing demands
    • Fostering accountability among the group
