Background

  • Works under general direction from the Plant Manager in a Chemical manufacturing plant
  • Broad responsibility to provide industrial maintenance support and engaged in maintaining and repairing physical structures and equipment, along with assisting in new capital projects

Tasks

  • Assists in set up and installation of equipment.
  • May include tank service; piping; valve replacement and rebuilds; mixers/agitators/pumps; air compressors, chillers, and hot oil systems; service/repair seals, gaskets, O-rings; electrical; machine controls; machine guards and safeties
  • Precision Alignment, Rigging, Tensioning fasteners & belts, Lubrication, Lacing & tracking of belt systems
  • Review and revise Standard Operating Procedures for Maintenance
  • Some welding knowledge to repair structure or weld pipe
  • Provide technical expertise, equipment-based or repair technique based, which impacts availability and maintainability of facility (e.g., troubleshooting equipment problems, evaluating equipment design relative to its intended purpose)
  • Directs the analysis of mechanical and operational problems
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and oversee day to day maintenance and facility activities to assure the proper and efficient maintenance and repair of production and facilities
  • Create, implement and maintain preventative maintenance program of production including inspection of plant equipment
  • Set up and maintain maintenance software/system for PMs, inventory replenishing, etc. for internal and audit purposes
  • Prioritize repairs and assignments daily that it relates to production
  • Analyze and resolve work problems
  • Perform general plant maintenance (corrective and preventive tasks)
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications and standards; ensure repair documentation is maintained
  • Assist with facility maintenance
  • Observe all safety programs
  • Represents the company's position and interest in dealing with outside contractors, vendors
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew; actively support and provide leadership for company's initiatives; routinely focus on employees and customer needs
  • Assist Purchasing with inventory of appropriate Requisition tools, equipment and inventory replenishing system for parts

 

Specifications

  • S. diploma required, supplemented by advanced engineering/ industrial mechanics training;
  • Least five (5) or more years, experience in a manufacturing environment; previous supervision experience preferred
  • Knowledge of:
    • High level mathematics and English comprehension
    • 3 Phase 400V electrical systems and 230V single phase circuitry
    • Mechanical/ hydraulic and pneumatics concepts related to manufacturing equipment
    • VFDs, Motors/Wiring configurations, Computers, Electrical Schematics, Control Circuits, Electrical Distribution Systems
    • Instrumentation and PLC experience Required
    • Comprehensive level of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems
    • Advanced level of safety, health and environmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures
  • Skill in:
    • Negotiations and cost-consciousness
    • Troubleshooting and maintaining mechanical, electrical and technical aspects of manufacturing equipment
    • Organization and self-motivation
    • Reading drawings, service manuals and blueprints
  • Ability to:
    • Comprehend and interpret oral and written English instruction
    • Write routine reports and correspondence
    • Deal with problems involving several variables in multiple situations
    • Work in cold and hot (120F) environment
    • Lift up to 50 pounds and drive fork truck in safe and efficient manner
    • Operate and maintain wide variety of maintenance tools and equipment
    • Exhibit manual dexterity, perceptual speed and extent flexibility
    • Adopt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs
