Industrial Forklift Mechanic

Background

• Works under direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager in a GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards
• Performs mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on company forklift fleet including electrical and propane forklifts

Tasks

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance for material handling equipment including: oil changes, tune ups, hydraulic system inspection and repairs, electrical systems diagnostics and repair, belt changes, telescopic masts, steering and suspension
• Maintain and service electric, propane forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, boom lifts, lift trucks, etc.
• Manage and maintain parts inventory levels
• Troubleshooting equipment problems and conferring with and getting approval from management before making repairs
• Complete each repair job in a timely, efficient and professional manner
• Obtain parts from other sources
• Record details of repairs completed, and parts used; communicate issues to management
• Reassemble machines and equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with operators to locate and diagnose malfunctions
• Dismantle defective forklift parts for repair, using hand tools
• Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, and hand tools
• Clean and lubricate parts; tune engines
• Perform in safe and professional manner by observing applicable environmental, health and safety rules, procedures, laws and accepted safe work practices

Specifications

• Associate's (AA) degree in Automotive Technology or related field preferred. Degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience as described below.
• Two (2) years automotive mechanic experience: repairing and/ or maintaining electrical and propane forklifts and diesel and hydraulic lifts systems a plus
• Knowledge of:
  • Motor diagnostics (Basic level)
  • Safety, health and environmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures
• Skill in:
  • Performing multiple technical tasks with potential to upgrade skills
  • Organization and self-motivation

• Ability to:
  • Work in extreme cold and hot (120 F) environment
  • Comprehend oral and written English instruction
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and drive fork truck in safe and efficient manner
  • Follow established policies and procedures
  • Work within a team environment to assist others as needed
  • Operate and maintain wide variety of maintenance tools and equipment
  • Exhibit manual dexterity, perceptual speed and extent flexibility
  • Adapt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs
  • Pass pre-employment physical with drug screen and physical capabilities test
