Industrial Electrician

Background

  • Works under general supervision of the maintenance manager in a GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards
  • Perform general industrial electrician duties (installation, maintenance and service of electrical systems), with strong emphasis on troubleshooting to meet the needs of manufacturing facilities and processing systems.

Tasks

  • Maintain devices that provide power to and controls for the plant distribution, machines, equipment and other gear
  • Install, connect, test and maintain electrical control and instrumentation systems for a variety of purposes, including production, climate control, security, and communications
  • Inspect equipment, locate and correct problems before breakdowns occur; use preventative and corrective maintenance techniques to diagnose, isolate and repair electrical. Electronic problems throughout the facilities (may include repair of motors, transformers, generators, process and PLC controllers on production equipment)
  • Work with blueprints and follow National Electrical Code, state and local building codes
  • Recognize voltages at primary and secondary levels, exercises proper care safety precautions when working with all voltages
  • Plan sequence of installation (including collaboration with process/project engineers, operations and other maintenance staff) to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers
  • Work routinely with electrical gear, motors, controls, components, PLCs, standard devices and wiring
  • Advise management on whether or not continues operation of equipment could be dangerous

Specifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) or more years skilled/ journeyman industrial electrician experience; chemical manufacturing and instrumentation a plus
  • Knowledge of:
    • Basic levels of mathematics and English comprehension
    • Advanced level of electrical systems, including 480-v 3-phase motors
    • Advanced level of local, state and federal building and electrical codes
    • Basic level of safety, health and environmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures
    • Skill in:
      • Decision –making based on measurable criteria; and visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings
      • Organization and self-motivation
      • Reading schematics/ drawings, service manuals and blueprints
      • Troubleshooting electrical breakdowns of industrial equipment
      • Ability to:
        • Work easily and skillfully with hands
        • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 55 pounds
        • Climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds; and stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch
        • Work in extreme cold and hot (120 F) environment
        • Comprehend oral and written English instruction
        • Drive fork truck and operate lifts in safe and efficient manner
        • Follow established policies and procedures and work within precise limits
        • Work independently within a team environment to assist others as needed
        • Operate and maintain wide variety of tools and equipment
        • Exhibit manual dexterity, perceptual speed and extent flexibility
        • Adopt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs
        • Pass pre-employment physical with drug screen and physical capabilities test
