EHS Training Support Specialist

Position: Full time

Background

  • Reports to the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • Position will be responsible for ensuring all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, and related safety procedures are followed by maintenance, operations, sanitation, and contractor personnel.
  • Duties include providing daily support to facility personnel for proper training & documentation of safety procedures:

Tasks

  • Working closely with maintenance and operations personnel to gather information about their equipment.
  • Identifying machines and equipment subject to LOTO procedures and identifying all energy sources for the equipment.
  • Developing and reviewing LOTO written procedures for accuracy.
  • Providing on-going training and guidance on LOTO, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, and related safety programs for facility personnel.
  • The position will have a focus on LOTO procedures:
    • Indicate when LOTO procedures are required
    • Assure the availability of locks, tags, lockout boxes, and equipment specific LOTO procedures to all employees who are required to use them
    • Identify and prioritize equipment list for LOTO multiple source equipment-specific procedures to be written (including providing updated P&ID information)
    • Develop equipment specific LOTO procedures
    • Conduct, implement and coordinate hazardous energy isolation LOTO procedures
    • Verify LOTO procedures are being followed
  • Training of authorized employees including:
    • A review of the LOTO Program
    • The recognition and identification of hazardous energy sources (e.g., electrical, steam, pressure, etc.)
    • An explanation of LOTO procedures and forms
    • The steps involved when returning equipment back to service
    • The correct use of LOTO devices
    • Recognition of new hazards, such as new or modified machinery, equipment, or process Training of Affected and Authorized Employees at new hire orientation and whenever:
    • There is a new or revised energy control procedure
    • Their job assignment changes
    • The LOTO Program is modified
  • Any other tasks deemed necessary by Management for the betterment of Jost operations

Specifications

  • S. degree or above in Science, Environmental management, Engineering, Occupational Safety or Health (or a related field). Work related experience in a Chemical manufacturing environment shall also be considered in lieu of degree.
  • At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of generally accepted principles, theories and practices used in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Federal, state, and local SHE regulations
    • Safety related maintenance programs including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Hot Work, and Fall Protection
    • Office methods and procedures
    • MS Office software package
    • Training needs assessment, design, delivery and evaluation.
  • Skill in:
    • Training needs assessment, design, delivery, and evaluation
    • Working effectively and efficiently on multiple projects at once
    • Working effectively in a team environment, including in-depth collaboration between production and process divisions
    • Responding to rapidly changing demands
  • Ability to:
    • Provide leadership in delivering effective and efficient EHS services.
    • Manage projects and coordinate them with other organizational units.
    • Train and influence others in EHS related activities.
    • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, within all levels of the organization.
    • Assess risk and develop appropriate mitigation approaches.
    • Exercise judgment while being insightful, logical, and methodical.
