Bulk Storage Materials Handler

Background 

  • The Bulk Storage Material Handler position is responsible for unloading hazardous bulk chemicals from tanker trucks and loading outgoing chemical trucks.  Monitoring and maintaining adequate bulk chemical inventories.  This position also works to coordinate with the Production/Purchasing department to keep their tanks supplied.  In addition the position, works with the Purchasing and Transportation departments to maintain adequate incoming truck schedules.  The position ensures safe and efficient operation while adhering to Jost Policies and government regulations.  
  • Works under direct supervision of the Packaging Manger in a GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • Performs manual and clerical duties on regular basis to manage the program to ensure that the required elements are being actively implemented and documented, which will include inspecting, storing, receiving, issuing, and delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies associated with in-process chemical manufacturing.

Tasks

  • Assures incoming element matches that of the accompanying documentation with by ensuring required tags, labels, and markings are affixed to property to reflect identity, status, and condition.
  • Makes sure that technical data is retained when retagging items.

For receipt of bulk tanker truck materials:

  • Uses a control system screen to log into the automation system and confirms material received based on accompanying documentation.
  • Connects 3 inch hoses from bulk tanker trucks to the correct offloading pipe connection at start of tanker truck offloading.
  • Utilizes automation system to start and stop offloading process and address any alarm conditions. At completion of offloading, blows out lines, disconnects, and properly stores hoses.
  • Fill bulk raw materials out of storage tanks and into IBCs (intermediate bulk containers) or totes via an automated tote filling system.
  • Wash and dry recycled totes as necessary.
  • Provides secure storage and handling of classified and sensitive items
  • Responsible for all in-warehouse assets
  • Maintain organization of bulk packaging supplies and in-process material areas for convenience of handling and ease of movement; inform Crew Leaders and Packaging Manager and/or Purchasing Department when stock reaches order level
  • Determines the general warehousing plan how to arrange stock within the storage area; may assist with packaging and cleaning duties as needed
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or dollies to move material or reorganize storage
  • Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves; load materials into vehicles and install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, using hand tools
  • Take necessary action to control deterioration and/or corrosion of items in storage.
  • Maintain and enhance site safety
  • Perform special inventories as required.
  • Position also will back up Materials Handler to unload and load trucks at 8130 and 8150 dock
  • Maintain and turn in all packing slips from deliveries
  • Position will also back up other positions to make boxes for the Packaging Department

Specifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of experience, manufacturing/GMP environment preferred
  • Experience unloading bulk hazardous material tankers
  • Microsoft Office Software (Proficient in Excel)
  • Hazwoper 24 hour Technician level
  • Knowledgeable in DOT regulations
  • Knowledge of:
    • Mathematics and English comprehension (Basic level)
    • Packaging operation and production processes (Thorough level)
    • Raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods (Basic level)
    • Safety, health and environment rules and regulations, policies and procedures (Advanced level)
  • Skill in:
  • Troubleshooting and product inspection
  • Attention to detail and recordkeeping
  • Prior experience with inventory management
  • HAZMAT training and/or First Responder certification
  • Hazop experience

 

  • Ability to:
    • Work in extreme cold and hot (120F) environment
    • Comprehend oral and written English instruction
    • Drive fork lift in safe and efficient manner
    • Follow established policies and procedures
    • Exhibit manual dexterity, perceptual speed and extent flexibility
    • Adopt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs
    • Work on weekends or overtime if needed
    • Pass pre-employment physical with drug screen and physical capabilities test
    • Squat to touch floor 10 times without assistance
    • Lifting: Graduated lift to 55 pounds in box 4" to 57"
    • Lifting: Stack 40, 55 lbs. bags within 10 minutes
    • Push at least 102 lbs. from any height.
    • Pull an average of 100 lbs. at 36"
    • Ascends/Descends vertical ladder 15 rungs (8 rungs 2 times)
    • Lifting: 30 lbs. to workers overhead extension for 1 repetition
    • Simulation of scraping movement: 20 lbs. CW/CCW for 2 minutes @ 18 ht.
    • Simulation of opening/closing a valve with cross bar at 60 ht.
    • Maneuver: 185 lbs. floor to 4" one time
