Background

  • Works under general supervision of the Engineering Manager in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • Responsibility to provide team with drawings in the design and layout of electrical and control systems using developed subsystems, industry standard components and, when required, some elements of original design.

Tasks

  • Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of electrical and control systems to ensure installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements
  • Work with production to create control narratives and process descriptions
  • Prepare equipment and controls hardware specifications and purchase materials and equipment from vendors
  • Work closely with engineers, electricians, operators and others during all phases of engineering projects from conception through commissioning
  • Design, implement, maintain and improve electrical and controls equipment, instruments, facilities, components, and systems for chemical manufacturing plant
  • Assist in developing capital project programs for new equipment and major repairs; develop budgets, estimate labor/material/construction costs
  • Study and prepare technical drawings and specifications of electrical and control systems to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards
  • Operate AutoCAD design software to design and draw panel layouts, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Read, create and modify Process Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and customer requirements
  • Assist with the electrical construction installation and configuration of control devices
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
  • Assist with startup checkouts and troubleshooting
  • Investigate operational complaints, determine nature and extent of problems and recommend remedial measures (be an effective troubleshooter)
  • Learn complementary engineering discipline methods to ensure effective process solutions
  • Keep abreast of new technology developments to achieve best practices and improve and optimize new and existing control systems

Specifications

  • BS in Electrical or Chemical Engineering
  • Knowledge of:

Required:

  • Theories, principles, methods and procedures of electrical and controls engineering (Basic level)
  • Mathematics and statistics (Broad level)
  • MS Office software package
  • 4-20 mA and 120VAC knowledge

Preferred:

  • AutoCAD Electrical (Basic level)
  • Rockwell Automation controls programming, information collection and presentation (basic level)
  • Skill in:
    • Working effectively and efficiently on multiple projects at the same time
    • Effective at standardized documentation
    • Working effectively in a team environment, including collaboration between development and process divisions
