  • Works under general direction of the Lab Supervisor in a c-GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards
  • Employees in positions at this level of the series exercise a considerable degree of independence in conducting a wide range of experiments requiring expertise in the application and adaptation of numerous research techniques and produce desired results


  • Perform initial analysis and interpretation of test results; designate valid test data; assign theoretical relationships to other findings within the project and assist in the development of sequential experimentation by evaluating relevant material abstracted from scientific journals and other sources
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate appropriate quality control program based on a thorough knowledge of quality control methodology
  • Review scientific literature, abstracts and applicable method papers; identify appropriate application for current or anticipated research projects
  • Write research methods, results and conclusions for publication; may present at professional conferences
  • Maintain and enhance site safety
  • Instruct other personnel in specific areas of research conducted
  • May lead lower level laboratory personnel in maintenance and preparation of laboratory materials and equipment
  • May perform work related to the next lower level in this series as needed


  • B.S. Chemistry or related technical field that included instrumentation. (as advanced non-thesis degree may be substituted for one (1) year of required Experience listed below; a thesis degree for two (2) years.)
  • Five (5) years of professional level chemist experience, two (2) years of which as may be gained at the next lower level of this series
  • Hours are during second shift, days alternating
  • Knowledge of:
    • Theories, principles, and methods of instrumental and wet chemistry (Extensive level)
    • Method development and method validation (Broad level)
    • Mathematics and statistics (Broad level)
    • Basic analytical laboratory equipment
    • MS Office software package

    • Ability to:
      • Lead and/or train others in assigned activities
      • Follow compendia and other test methods

      • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
